I'm baaack!

It’s been what – just over four months – since my last blog entry? I’m such a slacker!

I have no excuses other than 2010 was a very difficult year for my family. 2011 didn’t start out too great either. Instead of my husband’s health issues, I’m now dealing with my own. It’s nothing life threatening – just a pain in the ass dental issue that’s been dragging on for two months. It’s been bumming me out.

I love my humble little blog and I’ve put it on the back burner for way too long. I’ve been thinking about getting back to it for the last few weeks. The first full week of April sounded like a good time to start fresh again.

I haven’t scrapbooked in almost one year. I can’t believe it’s been that long. The motivation is just not there. Just like this blog, scrapping got put on the back burner when times got tough. I’m having a hard time psyching myself up to do it. The thought of pulling out pictures, paper, stickers, etc. doesn’t appeal to me at all. What’s wrong?

One thing that’s a definite downer is that my scrap area is a ridiculous mess. There isn’t even a table to work on right now! My scrap table became a wrapping station at Christmas time, and there it still sits in a different area of the basement.

Embellishments in general no longer appeal to me. (what?) My pages are more on the simple side. They all have a touch of old school like punch art or stickers. No matter how much I’d read that stickers and paper punches weren’t trendy, I never stopped using them. When punches made a comeback a few years ago and became the latest “must have” I wanted to put my hands on my hips and say “who’s trendy now?”

Speaking of trendy, I haven’t looked at a scrapbooking site or magazine in almost a year. I still subscribe to Scrapbooks, Etc. but the last three issues are sitting in my magazine stand still wrapped in plastic. I wasn’t kidding when I said I put scrapping the back burner. I have no idea what the latest fab new products are. Seriously. Trends didn't concern me a year ago but at least I knew what was out there. Now I’m clueless.

When I do finally sit down with paper, stickers and my trendy paper punches in hand, will I even know what to do with them? I’ve been thinking of purging most of my supplies and starting from scratch. What? Now that I’ve typed that sentence it sounds nuts, but it's so hard to even imagine myself scrapping when my motivation went right out the window.

I’ll keep you posted on how this all turns out. In the meantime, I think I’ll play with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 software that’s now installed on our home PC. InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, here I come! Now that’s something that excites me!

Good to see you back Judy - I find Scrapping Cathartic(Sp???) for what ails me. I get lost in the memories and the pictures. Find some old pictures of a happy time and go to town. I spent the weekend going back to my simple scrappy pages. It gives me delight and peace again. I was agonizing on how to make my pages "special" and really the "special" is about the moment I'm scrapping and how I frame that up is what matters to me, not anyone else. So find a couple of happy pics and lose yourself for a bit. Don't worry about trendy or latest, just do what makes you happy and peaceful. Sending you good scrappy vibes.

Wow, you have a blog? ;o) I know what you mean about the motivation though, mine kind of wandered off too. Even the mini scrapbook bearth certificates that go out with the bears are getting simpler and simpler. Ho hum, maybe it'll grab us again...

Thanks for the comments ladies! Katy, I love your little bears! Don't stop making them! Laura, great idea to pull out some happy pics and get lost in them. I just need to put my scrap table back in its proper spot. lol

Welcome back Judy, I have missed you and was wondering how things were going. I hope that things are slowly getting better.

I understand what you're going through. It's hard to feel creative when things get stressful and hectic. When you feel ready, take time with your magazines and visit your favorite blogs, you'll be inspired in no time.
Of course then you'll need to clean up your work space. I like's advice for cleaning up the clutter, and that's to work on it for just 15 minutes at a time.
I hope Spring brings happy things your way.
