Fabulous Friday Sketch - May 7

I want to thank everyone who's visited my blog and left comments. I really do love reading everyone's comments. It brightens my day when I see that someone's visited.

Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way of the fun stuff. Just as this blog started becoming a fun pasttime for me, real life took over.

On Monday, May 3 my husband had an accident at work. It was the day most wives and/or mothers dread. You get the phone call out of the blue. For me I was at the orthodontist with my son. They called his cell because mine was turned off (I've since learned a lesson about leaving my phone turned on). The woman over the phone, his coworker, said "Charlie's had an accident and broke his leg." Thud. Our boring, mundane, perfect world changed in a split second.

So without going into too many details, I'll just say something really big and heavy fell on top of him. His right ankle was dislocated and fractured and required surgery to screw it all back into place. His other leg is badly bruised. For the first two days at home he could barely move in bed, never mind try to walk. Thank goodness for my wonderful adult stepdaughter, who came to help so I could continue a normal schedule for my kids while caring for my husband. She also borrowed a walker from a friend, which has proven to be easier to use than crutches. I haven't worked my own job at all this week. I've cried a few times when no one was around. I wake up exhausted and overwhelmed.

So that being said, my sketch feature will most likely but put on hold after next week. I have a sketch scheduled to post on May 14. I don't know that I'll have time to sit down and do anything scrap related anytime soon. I hope to be back up to full speed again by summer.

Here is the May 7 sketch. It's actually a very old sketch that I redid for this blog. I've done several of my own layouts with this design because it's pretty versatile.

Colleen submitted this layout. I love the clean lines of her design.

Diana submitted this layout. She created a pocket and tucked tags with extra photos inside of it. What a great idea!

Melissa made a card with the sketch. I think it's great that she thinks outside the box like that.

Jennie sent me this layout. I love the colors and all the flowers.

The next two are older layouts of mine. I had planned on doing a brand new page for this week. I even bought new paper and embellishments last weekend. Unfortunately life happened...

This was my original page from this sketch. I won a layout contest at the former scrapbook store in town in 2005 with this. This photo of my son was taken with a single use camera.

And here's another version of the same sketch using two photos. This is my cat, Samantha. She passed away in 2007.

Thanks again for all your support.

Oh gosh Judi; I'm so sorry about your husband's accident. It is all so overwhelming when bad stuff happens. I'm glad your step-daughter has been able to help. I know the 'stepping back from fun stuff when problems occur' thing. Take care while you tend to life's business. I hope hubby heals well.

All you ladies did great work with this week's sketch and Judi I love your original layout from it....cool beachy feel.

Judy--so sorry to hear about your upheaval. But, ankles will heal. You have a lot to be thankful for, although it probably doesn't always feel that way. I am sending prayers for you and your family. I hope you get some crafty time too...it can help to de-stress. Your layouts all look awesome!
